Downs Ed International

Downs Ed International is an unbelievable organization!

I just attended a Downs Ed conference that came to Cleveland (from the UK) and was amazed at how well they know their clients! They focus on the strengths that a child with Downs has, and teaches everything geared towards children with DS.

One of the main focuses they have is on Speech. You must check out their website seeandlearn.org for free download of their program. Of course its another time consuming event, although you can order ready made program for a cost.

This has been the first conference that I have been to whose focus was specific to Down Syndrome. Thank G-D they came to Cleveland, otherwise I would not have realized the importance to actually travel to a conference. People flew in from all across the US to Cleveland!

Thanks to the Upside of Downs here in Cleveland who hosted Downs Ed!

I have to thank all therapists who have and still are working with Mendele. A lot of information that was spoken about at the conference I had seen being worked on with Mendele. The conference added extra background information explaining why each of those activities were so important, specific to children with Down Syndrome!

It's been a year! Wow!

Today is Chaya'les Birthday. Mendele wanted to be recognized to, so when the kids were singing happy birthday his name was also included. Lately, anything that Chayale does or gets (except for food that Mendele is still so picky about) he also wasnt a turn!

Enjoy these pictures of Chaya'les Birthday Party! Notice Mendele's new glasses.

How Brilliant? How Brilliant!

How smart are your children?

Your answer will depend on how well you know them. "Don't judge me until you're standing in my shoes" is a take-off of the divinely inspired original, "Don't judge your fellow until you are standing in his place".

But, is this a divinely inspired message? What's the big trick? Take a step over man and prepare yourself for judgment as I fill your former space. No. To get to your place I'd need to endure the journey that took you there.

How smart are your children? Mine - one average, one special - are brilliant!

The average (girl) drops my jaw, tending herself like she was born to it. I've never taken the journey of an average child. I'm amazed at her brilliance.

The special (boy) is only three and he's already at the physical development level of a one and a half year old! He's climbing in and out of his own bed. He's drinking from a little canteen; he's poking and dipping his food. He's talking at the level of a child two thirds his age. "Truck.in.the.grass", "Mommy.broom.pan.floor", "Please.help. me", "Spoon.cereal.in.bowl".

He's a genius! And what a journey it's been!

"Know your child and reap the ecstasy."
